The Self-Employed and VAT Numbers Service (SAPI) offers tax and accounting assistance for opening and managing a VAT number. If you are a craftsman, trader, freelancer, self-employed worker (commercial agent, financial advisor, street vendor, door-to-door salesperson, newsagent), owner of a small or medium-sized business, or association, you can request information on:

  • Ordinary and simplified accounting

  • Preparation of tax returns (income tax return, Form 770, etc.)

  • Opening and closing a VAT number

  • Management of INPS, INAIL, Chamber of Commerce

  • SUAP practices

  • Electronic invoicing

Documents required for existing companies

  • Photocopy of a valid identity document

  • Photocopy of VAT number attribution

  • Photocopy of recent Chamber of Commerce certificate (no older than 30 days)

  • Photocopy of INPS registration

  • Photocopy of INAIL registration

  • Photocopy of any registration in professional registers

  • Tax return for the previous year, complete with sector studies and VAT declaration

  • Register of depreciable assets

  • VAT records from the previous year

  • Initial inventories of the current year

  • Tax code and VAT number with complete details of the current accounting records holder

  • VAT credit declaration to be carried forward to the current year

Documents required to start a business

  • Photocopy of a valid identity document

  • Photocopy of tax code

  • Photocopy of school certificates

  • Photocopy of any administrative authorizations
